It's Time For Another Fashion Revolution!
Fashion Revolution Week is the time when we come together as a global community to create a better fashion industry. It centres around the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse, which killed 1,138 people and injured many more on 24 April 2013. This year, as we mark 8 years since the tragedy, Fashion Revolution Week will focus on the interconnectedness of human rights and the rights of nature. Our campaign will amplify unheard voices across the fashion supply chain and harness the creativity of our community to explore innovative and interconnected solutions.
For the third year, Style412 is hosting Fashion Revolution Week in Pittsburgh, a series of inclusive and free to the public events for those interested in sustainability, fashion, or both! Events include studio tours from local design shops and boutiques, giveaways and Instagram challenges, and sustainable fashion discussions. See below for a full list of happenings and information on how to participate.
Monday, April 19th:
#whomademyclothes, Instagram Challenge, All Day
Print a sign or pick one up from us and post a selfie of yourself on Instagram. Tag the brand you’re wearing and ask them #whomademyclothes? we need to transform the relationships between brands and suppliers so that the rights of people and the rights of nature hold more of the power wherever decisions are being made. One of the simplest ways we can push for industry change is by using social media to challenge brands during Fashion Revolution Week.

You can share mends or thrift flips that you have worked on in your own closet, or ask any questions about mending + sewing~ take a look at your wardrobe! Rust Belt Fibershed and Style412 are working together to collect data on the contents of our closets in the Rust Belt Region. This information will provide details about material content, country of origin, laundry habits, and more, with the goal of creating a healthier regional textile supply chain and keeping microplastic pollution out of our waterways. What's in your wardrobe? What's happening when you wash it? Where is it going when you are done with it?
This data will spark grassroots organizing for policy change (at the brand level, government level, etc.), identify knowledge gaps so we can tailor educational programs, and support further research on the impacts of microplastics in our waterways.
